Red or Blue Engine[ 23 votes ]
1. Coca Cola Red 14 / 61%
2. OLDS Blue 9 / 39%

It has been a busy year, but were back on the Gadabout project. Here are a few photos of the frame being prepared for installation.

I will post some more photos once the drive train is installed.

The fresh engine is currently the factory OLDSMOBILE BLUE but I am thinking of Coca Cola Red.

For fun..I have created a POLL for your opinion....

The fuel cells were powder coated Red on Top, Black on Bottom. Makes for a nice photo but will never see them once the body is on.

Race cars don't have drum brakes, it was a good change from the norm doing these up.

Primo job. I would have installed the engine before the front knuckles. The axles go in easier.
I'm curious how you treated the inside of the fuel tanks.

Blue engine would clash your color scheme. Go for red.

Wow, this will be an awesome coach. There is really nothing else blue? Blue is for pepsi, go for RED, it will look perfect with all the other red components you have in those pictures.

With all of that smooth concrete and two GMC motorhomes it looks like you could use my GMC dolly set up. Four 3000lb castors with custom fabricated attachment brackets to fasten at bogey box in the rear and at the joint between the stub frame and rails in the front. Rubber lined cast iron wheels and all four castors are swiveling which allows the coach to be moved in any direction. On smooth concrete I can move a fully assembled coach by myself. In the lowest position the wheels are about 6" above the floor. The attachment at the bogeys is accomplished without a cross member allowing free access to the underside rear of the joint between the frame rails and stub frame. The attachment at the front frame to stub frame joint utilizes a crossmember which is necessary if removal of the loaded front stub frame is desired while on the dolly( I pulled mine with a forklift while mounted to the dolly with the body in place). Height is adjustable by blocking between the castor plate and attachment brackets and using longer attachment bolts. I spent $500 for the castors and another $600 to have my bogey attachment design fabricated. I am finished using it with my restoration on my 77 Royale and hope I don't get lured down the rabbit hole on another one. I'm looking for $500 for all of it. Lemmeno if you are interested or want pics.

Hi, Carl.

Regarding the painted fuel cells:

Lots of folks here on the list have painted the underside of their
fuel tanks white, to help reduce (hopefully) heat gain from the
heat of the pavement from heating the fuel. All to hopefully cut
down the likelihood of vapor lock.

I imagine with your background, you won't be relying on the OEM
mechanical fuel pump, but I'm sure you also realize the benefit
of not overlooking ANY possible source of difficulties.

BTW, no preference here on engine paint color.

Mac,

Agreed, painting the fuel tanks only delays the inevitable, heat convected from the engine and radiated from the road eventually
raises the temperature to a point that causes problems.
