Holley carb on a rebuilt 403 with headers. I do have an EFI "kit" that's nearly ready to bolt on, but I'm waiting for the time and weather to do it right.

I switched to Howell TBI with EBL last February.  Love it!  No vaporlock, power at all elevations, improved fuel consumption by 14% on a 3,400 mile test drive.  To get a good feel, you need a bigger sample.  I suggest you do a quick survey at the Coos Bay GMCWS rally, or have someone else who attends do one for you.

Oh, if you like to fiddle and use computers, you will love EBL; otherwise, either stick to a stock carb and get it from a GMC vendor or, if you get EFI without EBL, there is little to fiddle with, your power can improve at altitude, and fuel mileage will slightly improve but not what it does with the EBL add on.  I figure I will have saved enough to pay for the TBI in 30,000 more miles (only a few thousand beyond that and it could be, "over my dead body").  If it wasn't for the fact that I would have gladly paid for the privilege of installing it myself, I might not have done it.

Still using original carb. Engine runs fine. Just changing those fuel filters is a bit difficult.

It is call an Embeded Locker System. Strange name. It is basically a soldered in addition to the computer that controls the TBI.

For more information see: http://www.dynamicefi.com

It replaces the original chip and it allows one to directly hook up a PC or Mac and easily make changes to the TBI computer. It has 8 banks which can hold 8 different programs so if you want one for when you are on flatland and another for when you are in the mountains or towing you can easily change them "on the fly".

This save one from having to pull the chip out and have someone reprogram it. Very easy to change your spark advance curve, idle, injector rates, advance curve, etc.

We looked around few years ago to see what EFI to stock and sell,
It became apparent that the Howell System was the best for several reasons.
There must be over 100 people that have them on their GMC.
There are at least 10-15 GMC people that understand the Howell system and are available 7 days a week to help. All are better than Holly, MSD, and other EFI tech people.
Most of the parts are available at automotive parts store.
The EBL puts your Howell into the latest EFI unit available with what all it does and can be done.
I am a EBL dealer and sell this set up to racers and hot roders couple times a week and for the GMC people we sell 95% of our Howell EFI with EBL.
It is a turn key/plug and play set up.
I do not buy the statement that EFI will eliminate vapor lock.
Doug, your coach has some work don that is why it has less tendency for a vapor lock problem. There are others that put on an EFI on a coach with cracked fuel lines and called me to say they were misled.
I will be putting on a seminar at International on this topic and I will shoot down this claim.

I have a 403 with a number correct carb that I rejetted 1 size larger. 8-10 depending on if I tow and cruise speed. Put an electric choke on when I blocked off the intake.

When I got the coach the timing was too late, ending up advancing about 20 degree's (thank you Jim Bounds!)to get it to spec. Went through the distributor and freed vacuum and mechanical advance. Cleaned up the distributor shaft which was badly scored.
