I've got the first Rockwell manifold that Jim Bounds sold, installed it somewhere around late 2009 or early 2010, and it still works fine. This is on an original engine, no metal removed from the head surfaces, so this may be one reason why I don't have any leaks. I used a Mr Gasket gasket set and grey Permatex silicone for this installation.
The engine runs better because the carb isn't boiling like it used to, especially after a quick rest-area stop on a hot day. Hot engine restarts are quick (a second or two of cranking) and no stumbling or hesitation afterwards.

I personally have installed 4 Rockwell Intake manifolds. I have personally
never had an ill fitting one yet. I have re-installed one that had major
vacuum and oil pumping from the valley. It was improperly installed and was
not the fault of the manifold. The aluminum intake does not extend downward
into the valley as far as the cast iron ones do, and will not tolerate
misalignment due to this fact. If you use the correct gaskets, and the
right sealers, and carefully align the manifold, you should have no trouble
with fit. If the deck surfaces, head surfaces have been cut, then you need
to trial fit the intake without gaskets and measure what's what before you
install it. JWID. Definitely block the crossovers on iron manifolds, and
check them for cracks as well. It is not a question of, Will they crack? It
is a statement of, Have they cracked yet?

What are you doing to block it?
and where do you get the stuff to do it?
or is it just a gasket that people use or is it both?

I believe some are not as blocked as they think. I recently helped pull the intake on a 403 that had been blocked for 60k miles. Dick Paterson says the exhaust "barks" at the plate. Both plates we removed had a holes starting to appear.
So, on your mind's eye you can sort of imagine how your blocked off manifold is doing.
And that coach has a single muffler in back.
